About Matt Shelton
Presently serving in the role of Executive Director, Matt has served on the Calvary Leadership Team since August of 2004. Saved at the age of 8, Matt is grateful for the heritage and early foundation provided by a Christian home, a Bible-believing church, and a Christian school education. After the completion of his high school education and an Associates Degree in Business Administration from Black Hawk College in Moline, Illinois, Matt headed to Lawrence, Kansas, to continue his educational efforts. It was at the University of Kansas, that Matt met “the best thing to come out of Kansas since basketball,” his wife Terri. In addition to being employed for four years as the Assistant to the Budget Director of the University of Kansas College of Liberal Arts, Matt graduated from the University of Kansas (Go Jayhawks!) in 1992 with a double major in Political Science and Organizational Communications. Waiting for him upon his college graduation, Matt moved to Dallas, Texas, to work for Sears & Roebuck in their Executive Development program. After completing this program, and while waiting for assignment by Sears, Matt was recruited by Michaels Stores, Inc. Matt spent almost 12 years in management with this organization including locations in Dallas and Longview, Texas, Des Moines and West Des Moines, Iowa, and Little Rock, Arkansas, which culminated in a regional manager position based out of Cincinnati, Ohio. Blessed by the experiences and opportunities of his marketplace career, in obedience, Matt transitioned to a ministry position on the Calvary team in 2004. As Executive Director, Matt views his primary role as being in a position to do whatever is needed to assist the Senior Pastor, protecting his time and energy, thus allowing his focus to remain on the primary task of preaching and teaching the Word. Matt and Terri both graduated in May of 2016 from Liberty University; Matt earning a Master of Business Administration with a Concentration in Leadership and Terri earning a Master of Arts in Human Services with Business Concentration. Matt and Terri share a passion for each other and their family, college basketball, and travel. The Sheltons have two daughters: Bri and Myrle. Bri, a Liberty graduate with a Masters Degree in Human Services, is married to John Gresh, a Liberty law school graduate. Myrle, a Liberty University graduate in Nursing, is married to Zachary Kees, a Liberty University graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science.
