Bewildered: What Habakkuk Teaches Us About Trusting God When We Are Clueless

The apostle Paul was clear in 2 Corinthians 5:7, “We walk by faith, not by sight.”  While we know that is the nature of our relating to the living God (by faith), we yet find it more natural to walk by sight.  Isn’t it true that we love to see it all and understand all that is going on?  No wonder the apostle also called the Christian walk “a fight.”  We desire to fight the good fight, and to fight it well…by faith.  But…that is hard.  What we see can trick us into concluding that what we believe is not actually true.  Therein is the rub, the challenge of the life of faith.  Faith is the conviction of things not seen.  Habakkuk will help us.  We have all been where he is in this great book.  His transformation from chapter 1 to chapter 3 maps out just where we need to traverse to resolve the tensions of living by faith.  There is peace, hope, security, and rest in that resolution.  Indeed, the just shall live by faith.  Let’s open our Bible’s to this treasure this summer and bolster our resolve to trek on…by faith.  “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”  Romans 10:11
