We are here again at advent as we celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ! Still this year, He is life’s unspeakable gift. We all know the hype and rhetoric of Christmas (and we all enjoy this season), but what does Christmas mean? Have not we cluttered the season with extras that have siphoned off the heart of its promise? To shape a great December, week after week at Calvary we are sorting through the meaning of the coming of Jesus. Of all books, we are using the Old Testament book of Daniel to lead us in a refreshed understanding of what Christmas brings to humanity. We’ll be looking east in a Christmas from Babylon theme as we celebrate all that the coming of the God-man actually brought. We’ll finish with those three distinguished special envoys who came from the East and were found to be the most responsive to Jesus, the King! All month long, we’ll come with them and bow down. Something changed when those angels offered that iconic birth announcement. “This is now good news of great joy for all people, a Savior has been born who is Christ the Lord!” Luke 2:10-11. Indeed, the invitation of the whole month will be “Come, let us worship and bow down!” The Lord has come. Hope has arrived in the infant bundle of our merciful Savior.
