We live in a spectacular day that is unprecedented
in history. Peoples of the earth are moving
all over the globe. It is changing cultures and
fermenting tensions. The migration of the peoples
of the earth is happening at unseen levels in
our lifetimes. Our Sovereign Lord is moving
people around. He is right in the middle of these
movements. And He Himself is moving among them on our globe as well.
In Europe and America, we are still trying to figure out how to respond. How do
we maintain the rule of law in our society (with clearly delineated legal paths of
immigration), while at the same time having compassion on the stranger? We are
struggling to hold those two “musts” in tension.
Unreached peoples in “closed” countries are moving…within a hearing of the
good news about Jesus Christ. The prime mover in all of these people groups is
the Living God. This is God’s world and He is the Lord. God’s Spirit is moving
among the peoples of the earth and revealing Christ.
One primary tool in God’s hand for His use is the people of God. We need to be
alert and alive to these moments. A particular focus on “me and my and what is
my pleasure” will not help us into a God-pleasing future. It is the church in sync
with God’s movement in our world that makes a difference, a church moving to
make Christ known…in step with the Holy Spirit.
Our conference theme is: On The Move: God’s People, Into God’s World, Moved
By God’s Spirit. Our focus verses are Acts 8:4-6. It is there that God was moving,
just like in our day. It was there that God moved His people out…of Jerusalem
and sprinkled them throughout the Mediterranean rim. It was then that the
people moving in sync with God’s movement in the world shared the good news.
A vibrant church is the church moving in league with the Living God into a
world without hope or light. What a privilege to seek the Lord together in these
days that we might be found as God’s people moving with Him into this world of
opportunity that lies before us. Let’s be that church moved by God. Into these dark
streets shineth, the everlasting light!
